So, what to say...what to say?
We went to a studio session with the band Tranko. These guys had a very Indian thing going on, with a sitar and tablas, amongst the various instruments being played.
We filmed a few songs of the melodic and psychedelic droning jams...yet another side of the music being produced here. We didn't interview them, but plan to before we leave.
Later that day, we headed to Harajuku/Yoyogi park. On Sundays it becomes a crazy place, filled with people dressing up in various costumes/styles. There were like 20-30 guys wearing all black leather, greased up hair and had tattoos. They were straight out of The Outsiders. "Stay golden, Pony Boy". The girls wore 50's dresses.
There were also cross dressers, gothic people and manga people. Manga is the anime culture over here. It's huge. Comics, movies, shows, hairstyles...people love it. Anyway, Harajuku on Sunday's is a circus, all sorts of folk.
We did a bit of filming of the mass amounts of people that flood the shops there on Sundays. It's a sea of people. After that we made dinner and watched some of "Wayne's World 2". Excellent!
So today, we did some A.M. work on the website. We have a working draft, but are waiting to go public until we've posted photos and whatnot...we want the release to be huge, so stay tuned.
Then we went and interviewed a group called Sajjanu. These guys called themselves "Japanese Zappa". They are amazing musicians, extremely technical and versatile.
Their set consists of one 35-minute heavily orchestrated song, which jumps between tempos, genres, and styles. With two guitarists and a drummer, they quickly manuever through their epic composition with great precision and adeptness.
We had seen them play before Moja earlier, and were really happy to catch this show. They also described themselves as "anti-Tokyo music", which made for some interesting discussion.
Alright, that's all I got...more photos/videos coming soon.
Ciao
Ian
