A Studio Session Experience...

Alright!

Today was awesome.

During the early afternoon we interviewed Shogu Tokumaru outside on the veranda of O-Nest. Well, maybe it wasn't a veranda, more like a cement overlook, but it was nice to have some buildings behind him for the interview.

Only after the interview was I informed that this guy has a large following. Of all of the musicians we're following, his success on the internet (myspace hits etc.) is almost unrivaled. Here he is during the interview:

After the interview, we packed up and headed home.

I've been working on a Flash animated graphic that will be on the new website, when it is finally up and running. We've been expecting the website to be up "very soon" for a few months now. Every time we get somewhere close to launching the revamped livefromtokyo.net, something goes wrong. So lets cross our fingers and hope that it REALLY will be up in the next few days.
And when it is, HOPEFULLY you'll be seeing a new and improved interactive menu, which I've been working on in our down time. Anyway, I'm excited, even if you aren't.

So a little later we went for a train ride to see Henrytennis playing in the studio. It was awesome.

These guys can play music, and they seem like they're having a good time doing it. Not to dwell in the past too much, but they totally reminded me of the happy go lucky early Phish days. They were all laughing, switching instruments, being weird, and playing great music. We were all feelin' it during their practice.

They were in the studio, which in Japan doesn't necessarily mean they were recording. Instead, its a practice situation, where they play plugged into all the stack-amps and mixers and whatnot. Here's a few shots from their practice (low light meant most were blurry):

So after the practice, Jonny (our part-time translator) came by, and we did an interview with the band. We found a little indoor/outdoor alley nearby and had a great interview, during which we found out that these guys have played in the USA before, and opened for The Presidents of the United States of America. WHOOOOAAA! Anyway, they were down to get philisophical, and I think the interview went really well, judging from Jonny's translations of their Japanese responses.

From left you have the saxophonist, the keyboardist, the bassist, the guitarist, and the drummer. (and above the drummer you have the boom mic...whoops)

OK. Off to bed. Another day of shooting tomorrow.
